Basics About How To Choose The Right Air Hockey Table For You
It’s very important, before starting your quest of finding the rightair hockey table for you, to dedicate a few minutes of your time to understand a few things about air hockey tables.
This step becomes more critical if this is your first time to purchase an air hockey table. At this stage, your main concern should be understanding the different types of air hockey tables alongside with the main features they come with.
That’s why I outlined some basic elements that you need to be aware of to make sure you won’t make any bad decision along the way.
Different Types of Air Hockey Tables
Air hockey tables aren’t all the same. There are different types that were built to meet different needs and preferences. Here are the most common types of air hockey tables that you need to know of:
Tabletop Air Hockey Tables:
It’s a perfect solution for people who don’t have a lot of space available. This type is portable and removable because it comes with rubber feet that can be placed literally on any top table. For example, it can be used with a dinning table, kitchen table, game room table or even the floor surface.
It’s the cheapest way to play air hockey in your house. It can be perfect for children since it can be attached to any top table no matter the height.
Regular Air Hockey Tables:
This is the most common air hockey tables available in the market. They come with different sizes that can vary from mini tables for children to full size tables for adults. They are less expensive than arcade-style tables. The reason is that the latter usually come with electronic scoring panel, lights and even music.
In general, this kind of tables is more suitable for kids and teenagers. As for adults, it’s recommended to go with arcade-styles tables that can deliver a better playing experience.
Arcade-Style Air Hockey Tables:
These are the REAL air hockey tables. They represent everything an air hockey table is supposed to be. They are sturdier than the other types because of the top-notch material they were made of. That’s why they’re the most expensive in the market.
They usually come with sound effects and a scoring board alongside with other extra features depending on the model. The playing surface is extra smooth to ensure the best playing experience. This type of tables can last for years and it’s the exact kind of air hockey tables that is being used in arcades and recreational centers.
Multi-Games Tables :
Due to the advancement in engineering, you can now get a game table with more than just one game. A multi-game table are equipped to be used to play two or even three arcade games.
For example, a game table that can be used to play air hockey and also ping pong. No matter how amazing this sounds like, I personally don’t recommend them. The reason is that the diversity of games is usually affecting the quality of the playing experience.
Different Sizes (Length)
One of the main characteristics that you need to pay attention to is the length of the table. You need to make sure that you have enough space in your place for the table that you intend to purchase. Sizes usually vary from 2 feet (24″) to 8 feet (96″).
Tables of 2 feet (24 inches):
The tables that come with this size are usually tabletop tables. They are perfect for small places since they can be easily folded and put into a closet or something. Also, they can be a good choice for kids.
Tables between 4 to 6 feet (48″ to 72″):
Most tables in the market come with sizes that fit into this segment. It’s the average size that most indoor air hockey tables are manufactured with. It’s a great choice for most purposes.
Tables between 7 to 8 feet (84″ to 96″):
It’s the size of arcade-style air hockey tables. This range is know as the standard size of a tournament grade tables that deliver the full playing experience. They are the most expensive as you can tell.
What’s Your Initial Budget ?
Before deciding anything, you should determine the amount of money you’re willing to spend on your purchase. You don’t want to go mad and buy something that will hurt you financially and worst of all make your wife angry at you.
Prices of air hockey tables can go from 30 bucks to thousands of dollars depending on the quality of the table. So, there are affordable tables for all budgets.
What’s usually recommended is not to fall for 30$ tables. They’re just a waste of money. There’s no way you’re getting a real table with that amount of money. I rather call them toys and not tables. Therefore, you should expect paying 70$ to 150$ on tabletop tables and over 150$ for a reliable mid-range air hockey table.
What’s Your Skill Level ?
The offerings diversity you find on online stores are supposed to meet different needs and especially different skill levels. That’s why it is important to buy a table that suits your level of experience with air hockey.
Beginners and kids:
If this is your first time trying to play air hockey table or if you’re looking for a gift for your kid, then I wouldn’t advise you to pay more than 150$.
Especially, if you know that the table will only be used occasionally or during a short period of time (holidays for example).
Tables that are suitable for intermediate players are obviously more expensive and last longer. Besides, they provide a better playabality thanks to the good material used to manufacture them.
This is the way to go if you wanna advance your skill level and participate in some local tournament.
Pros use arcade-style air hockey tables that are sturdy and durable. If you really are a fan of air hockey and wanna get the full experience of arcade, then you should get a premium table.
Power: Battery or Plug-In ?
Every air hockey table needs power. There are two power systems that you can find in air hockey tables: Battery-based system or plug-in system (no battery).
Small tables and tabletop come usually with batteries that can be charged. The advantage is that you can get this table out for a picnic and play outdoor because you have a battery. However, most larger tables don’t come equipped with batteries and use only plug-in system.
The best scenario is to get a table that has a battery and a plug-in system. This way you won’t waste a lot of money on double-AA batteries. Besides, you’ll have the possibility to take your table outdoor.
One of the main elements that you need to consider when buying an air hockey table is the thickness and dimensions of the table surface.
Thickness is responsible of the quality and smoothness of the table surface. The thicker the better. Usually, a thickness of 3/4″ is good and can deliver an excellent playability.
As for dimensions, they vary depending on the table. There’s no rule here. Just pick what you think is best for you with taking into consideration how much space you do have available back at your place.
Material: Wood/Metal Vs Plastic
This is a no-brainer but I had to mention it. Cheap tables are usually made primarily of plastic alongside with some wood paneling to provide stability.
On the other side, good quality air hockey tables are built using a combination of wood and metal. The legs are usually made from metal to provide a strong foundation for the table. The top-table is usually made of strong wood and sometimes aluminum gets involved too.
Warranty: What You Need To Know
What you should pay attention to when it comes to warranties provided by air hockey tables manufacturers is that they’re usually short. Only a few months of assurance is what you get.
Normally, as long as the price goes up, the warranty duration follows the same direction. If insurance is an important factor on your decision, then make sure to check the duration and type of warranty that comes with the product.
Reviews Of The Best Air Hockey Tables In 2017
Before getting into the real stuff, I just wanna share with you some context.
All reviews below are neutral and were written with most possible objectivity. My goal is to give you a complete idea of the best air hockey tables available in the market without any biased information.
After days of research, comparison, analysis and discussions with some experts, I think the tables that are included in this guide provide the best value for money that anyone can get.
I divided the reviews section to two major parts. The first part will be dedicated only to tabletop air hockey tables. The second part will cover the regular legged air hockey tables (arcade-style included) of different price ranges (under 500$ and under 1000$).
Now, it’s time for what you actually came for. Let’s get started.

Basics About How To Choose The Right Air Hockey Table For You
Playcraft guys know their stuff. They make awesome crafty air hockey tables. The Sport 40″ table top is my first recommendation. It’s the best seller tabletop air hockey on Amazon.
This UL-approved comes with an air-powered motor of 110v to ensure a nice floating of the pucks. The framework of this tabletop is made from a sturdy MDF hardwood to maintain stability while playing. Many reviews have confirmed that the table stays really steady.
The table’s dimensions are 40″ width, 8″ height and 20″ depth. It’s perfect for most youngsters who can’t reach full-sized tables. The table comes with two strikers and two pucks plus an ABS puck catcher for a quick puck return.
Bottom line, the Playcraft Sport is an excellent choice for young kids and for people who don’t have much room for a full-sized table. The price-quality ratio with this product is great. The numbers at Amazon are enough to convince anyone. It has over 286 reviews with 4.0/5 rating. Highly recommended for sure !
Our second choice in the list of best table top air hockey tables is the Sport Squad HX40. This electric powered table provides an excellent playing experience for players from different ages. It’s beautifully designed and people seem to love it especially kids.
The HX40 model is air powered to maintain a fast and smooth gliding for the pucks which makes the quality and excitement of the play outstanding. There’s high-output fan that’s responsible for the fast-action play. As for the material used to build this table, it’s mainly solid wood that will ensure high durability.
The surface dimensions when assembled are within the standards with 40″ width and 20″ depth. It’s easy to assemble in just a matter of few minutes. The table comes with two 2″ pucks and two pushers. Plus, the goal boxes come with manual scorers.
Note that you’ll have to use the ac adapter most of the time because the batteries will run out quickly. So, you should keep that in mind.
Besides, as I read in many review, this top table is more suited for kids under 8 years old. Kids above that age usually find the table kind of small and it doesn’t fulfill their desire for some REAL exciting air hockey game.
Bottom line, it’s a very good table top table especially for that low price. It’s perfect for youngsters and many who purchased it admit that it’s a solid table that delivers a fun and enjoyable experience. Check out the video I embedded to see this table in action.
Another good table that has to be part of this list is the Hathaway Power Play. It has many positive reviews all over the web. It seems to be a solid air hockey table that you may want to consider.
The playing surface dimensions are almost equal to the previous models with 39″ H and 19″ D alongside with 1/8″ thickness. The table surface is made from certified MDF (Medium-density fiberboard) which is a high-quality material that will ensure maximum durability.
Most reviews confirmed that this table provides a smooth play thanks to its 110v electric powered air blower system. So, there should be no worries about the air being uneven in some areas of the surface.
As always, this table comes also with two 3″ pucks and two large strikers. Besides, each side has a manual scoring slide to keep track of the score. It takes less than 10 minutes to assemble the table and be ready for use.
To sum up, the Hathaway Power Play can be a good choice. However, I believe you can get a better value if you decide to go with either Sport HX40 or Playcraft Sport. Honestly, this table is a little bit over-priced compared to other options like the ones I mentioned.
The fourth element on this list is the Carrom Power Play. It’s a fine table top that proves to be a sturdy and reliable table suitable for kids to play with in rainy days. So, let’s get down to its main characteristics.
The surface play is a little bit smaller than previous tables with 19″ in wide and 37″ in long. The air works just fine thanks to the UL-approved high quality electric motor that keeps the play smooth and a lot of fun. Plus, the small legs that you see in the image on your right can be easily removed.
The goals are just in the right size with a manual slide scoring and dual puck return to keep the game going with zero distraction. Also, as its the case with most air hockey tables, this table comes with two pucks and two controllers included with every purchase.
Even though you may find that the product description says that this table is for kids over 13 years old, in practice it’s actually quite the opposite. Most people who bought this table admits it’s quite tiny for teens over 13 but it’s perfect for youngster under 10 who seem to love it.
Our last recommendation for this section of table top tables is the 21″ mini which is half the size of the previously mentioned tables. I’m aware that some of you would be looking for a 21″ air hockey table. That’s why I decided to talk about this table which I consider it to be the best 21″ table top in the market.
As you may have already noticed, this table has the same design of the Playcraft Sport 40″ table. They’re both products of Playcraft. What I really like about this table is that it has pretty much the same characteristics as the Sport 40″ table.
They’re built using the same high-quality material. They both has an amazing air-powered surface that gives a fast-paced and smooth play. They both comes with two pucks, two controllers and built-in scorers in each side. However, this mini table is half the size. Its dimensions are 21″ W 12″ D 4″ H.
According to many reviews on the internet, this table is mostly adequate for kids between the age of 3 to 7. For kids older than that, they get bored quickly using it and you certainly don’t want that to happen, right ?
Additionally, you should know that the only source of energy for this table is batteries. it requires 8 AA batteries. In overall, this 21″ mini table top seems to be an excellent choice especially for kids under 7.
So, as I mentioned earlier, this section will be divided into two parts. Each part will contain the best five air hockey tables within that price range. The first part will cover top air hockey tables that you can get for less than 500 dollars. The second part will be about the top 5 tables that cost less than 1000$ (which means between 500$ and 1000$). In addition, I’ll introduce a bonus review of one of the most amazing (and expensive) air hockey tables.
You can use the navigation links below to go directly to the part you’re most interested in.
P.S: Multi-game tables weren’t taking into consideration in this guide. I’ll cover them in an other guide some time in the future.
The Face-Off model brought to you by Hathaway is actually one of the best sellers on Amazon. That must mean something. Its rating is quite high. It got so far an average rating of 3.9/5. So, let’s get down to why it was a successful air hockey table.
First things first, let’s talk material. It was built mainly using manufactured wood (MDF) which is good quality. The table is sturdy thanks to its the solid legs that come with large levelers. So, you won’t have to worry about the table being unstable during the game.
As for the table surface, its a 1/8″ thick poly-sealed slick playing surface that delivers fast play that will keep your adrenaline at its peak all the time. The air flow balance across the entire surface is excellent thanks to the 110v UL approved blower fan. You’ll need two AAA batteries and you’ll have to plug the table in for power.
Besides, there’s an electronic scoring board to keep track of your score during games. Two 3″ strikers and two 5/2″ pucks are included. The Playing Surface dimensions are : 27” W 54” L. Most reviews say that this table is a good choice for youngsters and teenagers as well (13 to 15 years old).
To sum up, the Face-Off Hathaway table is an excellent table by all standards taking into consideration its low cost. To make myself clear, this is undoubtedly the best air hockey table you can buy for less than 200 bucks. Period.
Our second choice for tables under 500$ is the Acclaim 4.5′ from Redline. It costs almost the same as the previous table. This Redline table has, at least in my opinion, a better-looking design. However, I still think that the Face-Off model is a better air hockey table.
Acclaim features a smooth playfield which is PVC laminated to ensure a good playability. The 110v motor fan has a switch button which means that you can plug-in the table and still control the fan. It comes with four 3″ strong L-styled legs to maintain equal balance throughout the whole table.
As always, two pucks and two 2″ pushers are included with the table. There’s no electronic scoring. It’s just manual slide scoring. The dimensions of this table’s play area are 26” W 53” D which are almost equal to the Face-Off table. Assembling the Acclaim table is super easy and takes no more than 10 minutes.
In overall, this table can be a reliable choice if you really liked its design and its light weight. However, a simple logical comparison between this table and the one previously reviewed will conclude that not only Face-off table is better but also cheaper. That’s a no-brainer.
Another awesome craft that had to be part of this list for sure is the new Blue-Line model from Triumph. If you were familiar with air hockey tables brands, you’d absolutely have heard of Triumph. Their tables are great even though some find them a little more expensive than other brands.
But, the newly released model isn’t at all overly priced. I should mention that Blue-Line model isn’t practically at the same price range as the two previous tables. It’s more expensive but it’s bigger, sturdier and a lot more fun. Its dimensions are as follow: 84” L x 42” W x 32” H.
One thing is sure about this table. It’s really STRONG and can last for years with proper usage. It features a powerful 110v air-powered motor that keeps the air flow even all over the top table to ensure fast play. This table comes as you can see from the image with 5″ leg levelers and full leg panel that will make the table stable no matter how competitive your kids are.
Now, let’s talk about the cool stuff. This table has a built-in LED scoring board and time clock to keep track of stats about your game. Also, there’s a button to turn on and off the music to make things more intense. As usual, you get two hockey pushers and two pucks.
In short, this table is amazing. It’s big enough for all ages and it’s really a solid table that can survive daily usage. It’s really practical for most purposes. I’d certainly recommend it for recreational centers and college clubs.
Another beautifully designed table I’ll talk about is the American Legend Power. It costs pretty much the same amount as the Blue-line. I do believe it’s a good product worth considering.
This table is air-powered as the rest of tables in this list. The air flow provided by the table surface is excellent and maintains a nice and smooth play. This table is heavily built to survive pretty much anything. You can notice from the image that it has four 4.75” legs with frames to support the weight and keep the table together.
It comes with electronic scoring system that is visible to both players together with LED Lights on each goal that indicate the goal width in case you were playing in a dark room. You get with this table 4 black pucks and 2 red strikers included.
The size of the playing field is almost equal to the Blue-line’s. It’s big enough to enjoy the full air hockey experience no matter the age. However, it’s more convenient for teenagers. With a height of 31″ it can be hard to use by youngsters. In short, it’s a good deal.
The last item of this list will be Playcraft Sport 54″. It’s a low-entry table for people with tight budgets. It’s actually the cheapest table on this list of top five air hockey tables under 500$. Let’s go see what this table has to offer.
The construction is not actually that bad. It was manufactured using MDF hardwood of a fine quality that normally should survive a decent period of time. This table has a 100 cfm air-powered motor that is supposed to keep the puck move smoothly across the table. But, obviously some people complained about it being weak in some areas of the surface.
Another major problem is the electronic scoring system which doesn’t last long as many buyers have declared. Two pucks and two pushers are included with every purchase.
Also, keep in mind that this is a plug-in table. So, there’s no need to buy batteries for the fan.
Regardless of all mentioned issues, this table still provide a good value compared to its cheap price. It still can be a good gift for your neighbor’s kid or some relative who you don’t really like very much. I’m just saying that this table can be your go-to option in some cases.
The first table I’ll talk about in this list is the Center Ice model from Playcraft. This amazing table is one of the best air hockey tables in the market. Awesome design, top-notch material and a very reasonable price. Let me give you more details about this beast.
This table was manufactured using solid material that is supposed to last for years. It’s mainly made of high quality MDF. The playing field provides a fast movement for the pucks thanks to its thickness of 3/4″ and high gloss PVC laminate surface.
One other reason of the excellent air flow this table provides, it’s the high output 120v blower that maintains a steady air flow. As for the foundation, this table is very stable because of the strong 6″ pedestal style legs that have 5″ diameter leg levelers to help you adjust the height of the table.
An electronic scoring board that can be hided away is built into the side rail and displays both time and scores. Also, two strikers and two pucks are included. Assembled dimensions are: 84” L x 48” W x 32” H.
Bottom line, this table is just great. You pay much less than the value you get in return. It can be used by both teenagers and adults. Thus, I think it’s totally worth it.
The second product I’ll review in this section is the amazing table Viper Vancouver. It’s a sturdy air hockey table with amazing specs that had to be in this list. You should be aware that such great table exists in the market so you’ll be taking a well-informed decision. Let’s get started.
The Viper Vancouver has a steady air flow of 110 cubic ft/min that provides an excellent fast flow for the pucks all over the surface. The table surface is designed to look like a real ice-hockey rink. The material is solid and durable. There are leg levelers that help you keep the table stable on uneven surfaces.
What will get your attention the most is the triangular and multi-directional scoring board that looks very professional. This board had also a timer that can be set to any number of minutes that you desire. There’s also dual end puck returns which are very practical and keep the game moving with no delay.
Four pushers and four pucks. As for dimensions, this table is 89″ long and 50″ wide and 32″ high. It’s a plug-in table. However, you’ll need batteries for the electronic scoring boards. Regarding the assembly process, many buyers have testified that it takes a lot of time (1 hour in average) and you may need another person to help you.
To conclude, the Viper Vancouver is a rock solid table that delivers an outstanding air hockey experience to the players. The price-quality ratio is good. Most buyers were satisfied.
The Monarch model is quite special. First thing you notice is the elegant design that tells you this not a 500$ table. People seem to love this table. Most customers who bought this table seem to be happy with it regardless of its high price.
The table comes with a powerful 115v Axial AC Fan that maintains a nice flow across the top table to deliver you an enjoyable playing experience. The primary material is manufactured wood that looks strong and is durable to survive even the most intense usage.
A dual electronic scoring board which can bee removed or turned off anytime you want. This board is placed in an overhead arc that gives a unique appearance for the table. Also, supplementary manual scorers are built into each side. The board can keep score by both time and score.
The dimensions of this table are: 32” H x 48” W x 84” L. There are four 3″ pucks and two pushers. It comes with a one-year warranty. Keep in mind that this table is heavy so you probably will need help in lifting it and the assembling either.
To sum up, Monarch air hockey table is an excellent product. This table will last for years to come without showing any cracks at all. It’s heavily built. It’s good-looking table that won’t affect the interior design of your house. In short, if you’re looking for something similar to arcade-style tables, then this is your best deal.
Another premium table that needs to go to this list is the Carmelli Brentwood. Again, the design of this craft is just amazing. That finishing with dark cherry wood melamine gives n irresistible look to this air hockey table.
The Brentwood model features a high speed play CARB certified playfield that will make you enjoy every second of your game. The playing surface has the following dimensions: 90″ L x 50″ W 32″ H . The fast-paced play is only possible because of the dual premium UL-approved 110v blower.
This table is heavily built. Mainly, they used some premium MDF material the ensure maximum durability. You won’t have to worry about the table moving while you’re using it thanks to the sturdy Arched pedestal leg that provide maximum stability.
An LED scoring board is built into the side rail of the table where both players can keep track of the score alongside with the time and other game settings. You get also four 3 3/4″ black pushers and four 3″ red pucks. It needs some time to assemble it. So, it’s better to ask a friend to help you with the process.
In short, the Carmelli Brentwood is a top-notch quality air hockey table. Beautiful design. Strong materials. Excellent Playability. I do think it’s the second best choice for high-end tables after the Monarch model.
The last item of this section is the Atomic Blazer table. It’s one of the finest air hockey tables that you can purchase today. I decided to add it to the list in view of the fact that it has a beautiful design and many people seem to like it.
Let’s start with the dimensions. They’re in overall 31” H x 48” W x 84” L and the playfield is 40” W x 76” L. The playing surface is made with 0.75” Gloss PVC and air flow is provided by 120v blower motor that delivers a fast play.
The primary material used in the manufacturing is plastic which is not quite solid. The table comes with four pedestal legs to ensure more stability and have leg levelers that can be used to adjust height when playing on some uneven flooring.
As it’s the case with all the other tables, four pucks and four strikers are included. There’s also an electronic scoring board to help you keep track of the game’s stats. Another thing about this table is that it’s convertible and can accommodate table tennis table. You get a 90 days warranty which is very short to be honest.
In overall, the Atomic Blazer is a fine table. However, it’s not the best at the same price range. I do prefer the Vancouver or the Center-ice over this one. But after all, it’s only up to you.
Gold Standard Games Home Pro Elite Air Hockey Table
There was no way I can end this guide without mentioning one of Gold Standard air hockey tables. These tables are know for their expensive prices that only a REAL air hockey enthusiast would dare to pay for. I’ll cover in this section the amazing table Home Pro Elite model.
This table is designed by the famous air hockey champion Mark Robbins who wanted to provide something special to the public. The Home Pro Elite was manufactured using premium material only. This isn’t some table that you’ll have to consider throwing away after a year of usage. This beat can last for years without needing any repair or special treatment.
With a professional looking, this table comes with beautiful aluminum rails to speed up the flow of the pucks when hit by the sides. Plus, a wear-resistant laminate top that provides a fast-paced flow that will blow your mind. This table can be quite addicting. As for dimensions, they’re 85 ½ x 45 ½ x 31″H.
This table is steady. It features four 3″ x 5″ solid legs that guarantee maximum stability. An electronic scoring panel is attached to the side rail of the table to keep track of score. Two pushers and two 3″ pucks are included with every purchase.
Bottom line, this table ,even though may seem expensive, is the ULTIMATE solution for anybody who wants a REAL professional-looking air hockey table that lasts for years. If you purchase this table, it’s probably going to be the last air hockey table you ever purchase. It’s simply because you won’t need another one.

Basics About How To Choose The Right Air Hockey Table For You
